Syracuse Center of Excellence in Environmental and Energy Systems (SyracuseCoE)
New SyracuseCoE HQ - Once contaminated site now one of the greenest
Tour the iconic Syracuse Center of Excellence in Environmental and Energy Systems headquarters building, in the final stages of construction in the heart of downtown Syracuse. The building includes the Carrier Total Indoor Environmental Quality (TIEQ) Laboratory, a unique facility in which researchers will study how multiple factors—including temperature, humidity, air quality, lighting, and sound—combine to affect human health and performance in a built environment.
LEED Platinum
Additional key features of the HQ include: geothermal ground source heating system, a green roof, daylight harvesting, glazing with integrated blinds, and an experimental natural ventilation system.

Building Energy and Environmental System (BEES) Laboratory
The BEES Lab is a full-scale thermal and air quality research facility at Syracuse University (SU) used for studies of material emissions, wall assembly performance, room air and air contaminant distribution, evaluation of HVAC components and control systems, and outdoor-indoor heat and contaminant transport.

Building Envelope Systems Test (BEST) Laboratory
The BEST Laboratory at Syracuse University focuses on the performance of air barriers, systems that control unintended air movement between outdoors and indoors, which can have major impacts on a building’s energy use and indoor air quality.

King & King Architects Headquarters
King & King Architects Headquarters—a green renovation of a former factory and warehouse in Syracuse’s Near Westside neighborhood by the oldest architectural firm in New York State. The building is pursuing LEED Platinum certification.

NOTE: King & King is located in Syracuse's SALT District (Syracuse, Art, Life & Technology)—a 150-acre neighborhood within the broader Near Westside Initiative (NWSI)—a sustainable neighborhood revitalization effort and a pilot program of the US Green Building Council’s LEED-Neighborhood Development program. Delegates are invited to view some of the neighborhood's showcased work at the Near Westside Initiative booth (#116-118) on the exhibition hall floor.
Parade of Homes
Guests of the HB2009 Conference have been invited to a Tuesday evening special reception and tour of the 2009 Parade of Homes, the annual showcase of the Home Builders and Remodelers of Central New York. This year's tour features eight distinctive homes by seven distinguished Central New York builders, representing the latest in design, decorating, construction, and energy-saving techniques.
