The TIEQ Lab
Among the building's features are the Carrier Total Indoor Environmental Quality (TIEQ) Laboratory, a unique facility in which researchers will study how multiple factors -- including temperature, humidity, air quality, lighting and sound -- combine to affect human health and performance in built environments.
The 10,000 sq. ft. TIEQ laboratory's initial operating capabilities include:
- Simulation of steady-state and transient indoor environmental conditions including thermal comfort, air quality, lighting and acoustical quality;
- Simulation of multi-zone office and classroom settings, and various ventilation, air distribution and environmental control technologies;
- Control of the micro-environments around individual occupants;
- Simulation of the interaction between an individual and his/her environment by means of instrumented, breathing thermal manikins; and
- Evaluation of the impact of outdoor or adjacent zone conditions (temperature, humidity, wind, day-lighting, noise) on the indoor environment through a wall section exposed to the outdoor or adjacent zone environment.
PLEASE TAKE NOTE: the SyracuseCoE HQ is still under construction, and as a result there are safety precautions that must be taken by all visitors:
- All visitors must wear sturdy, closed-toe shoes. No sandals or narrow-heeled shoes will be allowed on site.
- Hard hats and safety goggles, available on-site, must be worn at all times.
- Use extreme caution when on site, watch for uneven surfaces, and stay with the tour guide.
